But enough about me, let's talk about you.
More news to report, and this time it's not all about me.

My name's Leah and I'm an internet addict
So....comp's still in the shop but I couldn't take it any longer. Weird Kid was gracious enough to let me use his comp whilst he works. It's only been 5 minutes and I don't think I can last much longer with the way his desk is setup. I'm here all bent around like some sort of contortionist while I clack away on the keyboard like some crazed piano virtuoso (or would it be virtuosa, in my case?) due to a huge stack of CDs that come between me and the keyboard. Yes, let's make this quick.
Expo Latino ROCKED MY WORLD! Don Quixote's commandeered a food booth this year and so I was able to nosh on some of their outtathisworld paella. Mm mm good. The music was phenomenal, and the dancers were exquisite. I was inspired by all the people dancing, young and old. Dare I say it, and I don't mean to sound racist, but there was even a mature "white" couple doing the merengue out there. Hello! I...

Time to fiesta
My brother is being a doll and taking me to my computer store tomorrow morning to have my comp looked at. The clock in the lower right-hand corner lags slower and slower each day, even when I update it the night before. I haven't touched it in a while, and it's now 2 hours behind. I don't know much about computers, but I don't think this clock thing has anything to do with my software. Might as well take advantage of the computer's warranty before it expires.
That means I won't be online or blogging for at least this whole weekend and possibly into the week, depending on when I get my computer back. I suppose that isn't such a big deal considering I have not been doing the daily blogging bit for a while. (Summer, what can I say?) But for those of you who are going to be here in Calgary this weekend I offer these suggestions for some fun.
Expo Latino is once again upon us and for the first time ever I had enough foresight to book th...

Krispy Kreme'd out
Thank goodness!
Despite all the flats of Krispy Kreme's we dished out to our family and friends we still had 2 dozen left for us. And finally, just yesterday, we polished those off. With a little help from the fridge, can you believe those doughnuts have lasted us 10 days and they still weren't as hard or as stale as day-old Tim Horton's? All I can say is that Timmy Ho's has every right to be concerned about Krispy Kreme's expansion into Canada. If it weren't for Tim's yummy iced cappuccino and flavored cappuccinos, oh, and those yummy sandwiches, they would not stand a chance against Krispy Kreme comparing dougnuts to doughnuts.
This morning on the radio I woke up to a spoof of Ginuwine's "In Those Jeans" singing about addiction to Krispy Kremes. It was kind of premature. I mean, I'll bet most of Calgary has not experienced a Krispy Kreme as of yet. Unless you've visited out east to Toronto or down sou...

I shudder to think
I walk a lot. Yesterday, when I was pressed for time, I hopped on the bus from the train station to get to the gym. I usually just walk from the station to the gym and back, regardless of whether or not there is a bus available. What drove me crazy, though, was how long the bus was parked at the station before continuing on its merry little way. I'm sure I didn't save any time at all. Taking the bus for that distance made me feel guilty. Here I was conserving my energy on the way to expending it in order to get in better shape. I mean, it's almost as bad as this:
However, I did walk quite a bit today. I had a checkup with my head and neck doctor this morning to follow up on the whole parotidectomy thing. Instead of taking the bus back home I trekked it. A good half hour walk. It felt great, and I hence convinced my mom that it was "not too far" to walk.
Then in the afternoon I visited some old coworkers at the travel agency. Af...

Enquiring minds would like to know
To my dear dear sweet American friends, I just have one question:
What is UP with your iced tea, dudes???
Seriously. I made the mistake of ordering iced tea with my combo our first meal of the trip. It's been a while, so I forgot all about your messed up iced tea. Is it so difficult to have it pre-sweetened before you serve that stuffs? Do any of you honestly drink it unsweetened? *shudders to think*
I love you guys and all...really, I do. But that iced tea thing, geez, make things more difficult why don't you?

Highway Robbery
Our parents promised to call Monday afternoon so we could update one another on our status. Apart from our first bus being half an hour late my brother and I had not had any serious problems coming home. Oh wait, our bus did start smoking when we first started the journey. Big surprise, it was again on the Coquihalla (I think they should seriously grade down that road. I don't care how expensive it is, the toll should be going to making that road more survivable for the average vehicle.). The full bus that led the way had also started smoking before us. The drivers just changed the fan belts and apparently all was good.
Our family ended up at a hotel charging them 86 dollars a night. 86 dollars for accommodations in a dinky little town! A hotel in downtown Seattle cost us 69 dollars a night! Mind you it was US dollars in Seattle, but I'm just saying the comparison of what you pay and what you get is nuts.
Alright, let's try and wrap this up and ...

Hey hey, the gang's all here!
Thank you to everyone for their well-wishes. My family surprised my brother and I when the door opened at 2:30am -- I had slept in the living room again as I didn't want to be all by myself in the basement in a pretty empty house...at least this way the main floor was somewhat fuller people-wise.
Goodness we were all so happy to be reunited. I've been truly heartsick the past few days without them. I just wanted them home. We were stressed they'd be stranded there for days to come, stressed that they would get ripped off over there, stressed that they were all the way over there and we were over here unable to help them with whatever came. When they arrived we could finally breathe easy. Didn't have to perpetually monitor the phone in case they called. Didn't have to worry that they would encounter more problems on the road.
As I said earlier, it all started around 3:30pm in BC. We were about an hour and a half to two ho...

I return
Still super tired. It truly was a great vacation...up until about 3:30pm local time on the Coquihalla tollway (I think that's what it's called.) Not in any capacity to tell the whole story right now, nor to tell of the fun that was had prior. All that I ask is that if you are so inclined please say a little prayer or send some well-wishes to my parents, my sister, and my grandma who are all stranded in Hope, BC.
My brother and I would truly appreciate it.

"If we took a holiday... (oh yeah oh yeah)"
I wish I had time to talk about my great weekend, but I must get packing. Suffice it to say that I'd like to thank Daisy, Bizkette, and Bizkette's sister for a faboo hot dog roast on Friday. We must make up for lost roast opportunities when I get back!
Yes yes, I should go pack some more. 4 and a half hours left till we leave. That's right, boys and girls, me and my family are hitting the road at 4 a.m. Lordy lordy. Destination? First stop: Portland. Next stop: Seattle. Maybe a bit of time in Vancouver (the Canadian one).
Toodles, sweet people! Catch up with you all next Monday!

*bounce bounce bounce*
I have decided that I really really love postcards. I may not have been able to travel far this summer, but at least I can live vicariously through my friends.
SunMoon sent me a postcard from Cinnamon Bay at St. John's in the British Virgin Islands. I can't wait till she comes home for a visit in September. I simply can't get enough of her stories from abroad.
Then today I received a postcard from Mijo in Berlin. I was ecstatic! I love getting mail from him, and knowing that he remembered me and my "stuck-in-Calgary" state (but not for long!) and thought far enough ahead to take my address with him on his vacation made me even happier. *sigh* I wish I was there. I wish I was anywhere (preferably somewhere cooler than it is here right now). During my vacation next week the family's going to be camping wherever we are (don't want to reveal things just yet). Normally, I love camping...but in this weather, especially sinc...

These shoes were made for walking...
Ever since my mama broke her ankle she's held my trusty old Fila sandals hostage. Not that I blame her, those kicks were tried and true, absolutely trusty -- never failing and super comfy. It has gotten to the point where I had to decide if I wanted to buy a new pair just to have regular access to the trustworthy footwear. I decided to opt for a little more variety. I have wanted a pair of R Max by Rider for years now. Years! I just couldn't justify coughing up the dough for such a casual pair of sandals. As you can see from the photo above (well, if you are familiar with R Max, at least) they've tweaked the design a bit. Introducing the R Max II. I caved. I bought them. They're uglier than the originals -- I mean, the white lining is reminiscent of a big gawdy bandage -- but they have definitely kicked up the comfort to another level. Didn't think that could even be possible. The originals already felt soooooo g...
